Project aim: To develop a design proposal for a showcase hub for a specific community in Shoreditch.
Objective: To design a site-specificstructure, embedding an exhibit/installation, through investigation into place, culture and community.
extract from Brief….

When you have found your site, you must start interacting with it and making proposals for an event/exhibition/ installation, relating specifically to that site – the showcase. This will act as a central hub for a specific group of people; a community. Consider historical, cultural and contemporary aspects to such a place.
Site and showcase must be joined (or not? – if this is the intention..). How do you show case inner secrets of an area? Look at it like cutting a slice out of the area – a section – and investigate and dig into this. You need to create a narrative for the showcase. The research and continued interaction and experimentation is therefore crucial for all further development of your brief.
On your journey, you will find a site. You will claim it – make it yours. Zoom in and start making drawings, recordings and clear proposals to what your design will be.. make contact with the occupiers, users..
We will start with a central site, Iniva/Rivington Place, the art centre and home to Iniva/Autograph, from which you will edge outwards for research in all directions to find your story of the area. Having a sound knowledge of the area is essential to the success of your proposal. You cannot design or place ideas without knowing why.
Record information in drawings, sketches and photographs/film. Talk to local people, spend time there, experience the area.
